What it does
Open-source terminal coding agent for big multi-file tasks, with a 2M-token context and a diff-review sandbox.
Detailed overview
Most AI coding tools choke on large codebases and sprawling multi-step changes; Plandex is designed for exactly that — a terminal agent with up to a 2M-token effective context, tree-sitter project maps across 30+ languages, a cumulative diff-review sandbox, configurable autonomy, and automated debugging of commands. It's a genuine power-user gem overshadowed by IDE-based tools — and it deliberately keeps AI changes sandboxed so you don't end up with a mess. An MIT-licensed Go project with ~15,300 GitHub stars and ongoing commits (v2.2.1). Note: it's open-source / self-hosted — its cloud service began winding down in October 2025 and the commercial website is offline, but the OSS project remains active, with no IDE plugin or MCP support yet.
